American studio Midnight Society has announced the immediate dismissal of one of its co-founders – popular gaming streamer Guy Beahm, better known under the pseudonym Dr Disrespect.
Midnight Society explained its decision by the recently revealed details of Dr Disrespect’s permanent ban on Twitch. The ban happened back in June 2020, but neither side has yet shared the reasons for it.
Former Twitch director of strategic partnerships Cody Conners claimed that Beam was banned for having intimate conversations with a minor and attempting to meet her at TwitchCon, a claim that The Verge’s sources confirmed.
In response to the accusations, Beam issued a statement in which he confirmed the fact of correspondence with a minor (the case took place in 2017), but denied the allegations of their intimate nature and any vile intentions.
Beam said that he and his band made the decision to leave Midnight Society together, and currently intends to go on an “extended vacation” with his family and return “with a weight off my chest.”
Dr Disrespect’s last stream to date was the Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree DLC broadcast on June 24. After that, Midnight Society announced they were parting ways with Beam.
Midnight Society is currently developing a free-to-play competitive shooter called Deadrop on Unreal Engine 5. The release is expected in 2024 on PC (Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S.
